Our Story

In 2019 Katrice and Chris bounced around a few ideas about how to continue building the black community. Chris was already deep into developing a business directory for NW Florida called Bantucola.

Katrice was working on the PowerLink Expo that came to a halt due to COVID-19 lockdown, but she had another business she could fall back on. However, Katrice was unable to get help with COVID relief options like Paycheck Protection Programs. She missed out because there was always some little issue in the way. She watched counterparts and business colleagues receiving money. Even large food chains received money, but a lot of small business owners like Katrice struggled with no help in sight. This was not uncommon to other black business owners, she found out they were struggling as well.

During a nationwide locked down and seemingly endless violence against African Americans, George Floyd was killed at the hands of the police. His death sparked a powder keg fueled by pain and outrage around the treatment of Black people in America.

Chris became active in joining protests and spreading the word about Black media and Black businesses. Katrice sat still and prayed. In her mind, no matter how much Black America marched and made their voices heard unless we started working towards a change in the economic trajectory of this country our marching would not lead to a better Black America.

Katrice worked on ideas of how she could enrich the black community and help Black people realize their financial value. The concept was to create a sticker that people would buy, and a portion of the proceeds would be put back into the Black community. She knew that though some programs were effective, the name of the game was changing LAWS. Developing programs would not work if laws are in place to keep Black people from achieving success.

As Katrice solidified the vision of her concept, she shared these ideas with Chris and they began to develop the idea further to not only help empower the Black community but help educate and support its betterment.

Katrice quickly started designing what she thought would be window stickers for Black Businesses, but as she talked more with Chris, he encouraged her, and together they worked to come up with several designs. Thus, Black Economics 101 was born. From the thought of a window sticker came the idea of creating a brand that Black people can see and support. An opportunity to retrain our thinking about money and our rights.

Answering the call to build and love our communities. This business was started to promote knowledge and group economics.
